Each Phase of the Total Defense System builds on the next. A solid foundation of proper footwork and technique is very important as you progress through the program. Your body should move easily from one motion to the next and practicing each technique using the focus drills will commit the movements to muscle memory. Each time you throw a combination you will be faster and more accurate and you will spend less time thinking about each movement.
Watch the instructional video and pay attention to the footwork and try and practice the motions in a mirror to ensure your hands, feet, legs and arms are in the opitimal position to defend and strike.
The Phase I techniques are critical skills to master as you move into the following Phases and incorprate knees, elbows, more weapons and ground fighting into your training.
