Best Home Defense Weapons
We have all tried to figure out what the best weapon to use for home defense should be. There are many factors to consider when choosing between a handgun, a rifle or a shotgun. These days there are non-lethal options that can be considered as well.
Each firearms has it's pros and cons. The handgun, for example, is smaller than the other options and lends itself well to concealment. This is important because you do not want anyone to know you have a weapon until it is necessary to use it. If you get into a dispute with a neighbor and he happens to see you have a gun it might make him hysterical. The stopping power of a handgun will not be as significant with a rifle or a shotgun, but penetration of exterior walls will be minimized.
The shotgun is a devastating weapon with a wide blast area and multiple projectiles. Accuracy is less of a concern with a shotgun and knock-down power is exceptional. At the same time, the weapon is very intimidating and should be used as a last result.
Rifles are becoming more and more acceptable in home defense due to developments in ammo called "frangible" ammo, bullets that break apart upon impact with a hard surface like a wall. Penetration through exterior walls is minimized. Shorter barrels make it easier to manuveur through your hallways.
